Dr. Ryu’s DEEP PLANE Facelift Technique (SCI) 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Journal (SCI)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

 A few years ago, I was invited to an academic congress in Singapore to address \u201cAsian Facelift\u201d in a lecture panel. While looking for references in preparation for my lecture, I was surprised to find that there were only a handful ofAesthetic Plastic Surgery Journals <\/em>(SCI) published from the East. Since then, I told myself I wanted to research this topic from an Asian perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    There has not been much interest in this unexplored territory until now; however, due to population aging and improvements in living standards, it is clear that demand will increase significantly in the future. Therefore, academic support is essential to ensure safe and reliable surgical procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n

    It was published on the first page of the first issue of the SCI in 2015, the official journal of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS)<\/strong>, under the esteemed editorship of Dr. Foad Nahai<\/strong>. I was deeply honored that Dr. Sherrell Aston<\/strong>, renowned for his contributions to facelift surgery; and the mentor of my own mentor, Dr. Bryan Mendelson<\/strong>, wrote a commentary on my paper.<\/p>\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

The paper, titled \u201cHigh SMAS Facelift with Finger-Assisted Facial Spaces Dissection for Asian Patients<\/u><\/strong>,<\/em>\u201d presents a synthesis of meaningful techniques proposed to date, reinterpreted from an Asian perspective. It represents a culmination of over ten years of research. Moving forward, I plan to explore more efficient techniques that can reduce recovery time, while conducting in-depth studies on ethnic-specific anatomical characteristics.<\/p>\n\n\n

This technique is also useful for treating cheek sagging, which is particularly common following facial bone surgery in Asian patients. This is because midface sagging is a major component, and this method places significant emphasis on improving not only the lower face but also the midface region. It integrates the strengths of long-established and well-validated techniques\u2014such as the High SMAS, Extended SMAS, and FAME technique\u2014into a single, unified approach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In reality, Korea and other parts of Asia have few notable research achievements in this field, and there remains a long road ahead. I hope this paper can serve, in some small way, as a contribution to fellow colleagues pursuing the same path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
